Beginners Crochet Course
This is a class for complete beginners. We will cover the three basic crochet stitches (double, half treble & treble), tension and reading a pattern. We will finish the class by learning how to make crochet roses.
We are currently not running any classes for the foreseeable future, however please feel free to add your name to a waiting list if you would be interested in taking part should we reinstate lesson in the future. beautifulthingshq@gmail.com
Description
After this 2 week course, you should be in a position to read a basic pattern and create simple items of clothing, blankets and flowers etc. There will be a small amount of homework between each class (1-hour minimum).
Booking is essential as the class is limited to 4 students. Tea & coffee will be served. This 2-week course will cost £75 per head. Please be advised these classes are extremely popular and often book up 4-6 months in advance. We only run a handful of in-person classes per year and encourage you to book onto our online course (details below) if you simply cannot wait to get going.
As an added extra you will also receive all of your materials in one of our kits with a full printed instruction book. You will have access to our online training videos for future use and for help at home, this will be indefinite. (The online course retails at £30 and is included in the price for all ‘physical’ classes)
If you cannot make any of the dates listed or if you simply cannot wait to get started then we also run this course as an Online option. You will receive a kit and access to our online videos and support group and can start as soon as your kit arrives in the post.
*PLEASE NOTE this class is taught right-handed. If you are left-handed then you will find you have an advantage over a right-handed person in that you hold the yarn in your left hand which is your dominant hand! The majority of crochet patterns are written for right-handed people and you will not have to learn to translate them! Feel free to call and speak to Claire for more information on this method before booking.
PRIVATE TUITION
Claire also teaches by this course by arrangement in your own home or local venue. (within 5 miles of Billericay). This is for groups of no more than 4 people. The cost for a private course is £350 for up to 4 people. You can choose the dates and times of your sessions but it is advised that the 2 classes take part 2 weeks apart so that the course syllabus can be followed. I had wanted to learn to crochet for so many years, but even though I can knit and turn my hand to pretty much any other craft, I just couldn’t pick up crocheting. I have tried to follow tutorials but I just couldn’t master it. So when my friend booked us onto this course I felt sceptical about whether it would help me.
I was so wrong! Even though I felt all fingers and thumbs at first, Claire’s ability to teach and guide is excellent. She offers easy to understand instructions and back up video tutorials that I still refer back to. These are so good for reinforcing what you learn in class, but to be honest, they are so clear, if you cannot get to class, you will definitely learn to crochet by following them. I should also mention that you get a lovely bag of goodies included to kick start your crocheting. You feel like you’re going home with a present!
I loved going to the classes though. They are run in a beautiful setting. Claire’s workshop is full of inspirational projects. Attending the Beginner’s Crochet course has definitely inspired a love of crocheting for me and gave me the ability and drive to immediately sign up for the Intermediate Crochet course.
